Additions

A well-designed addition can transform the way your home lives and functions without the need to move. Whether your family needs more space, a better layout, or room to age comfortably in place, an addition allows you to tailor your home to your lifestyle while preserving the neighborhood and home you already love. When thoughtfully planned, an addition can also increase long-term property value and make your home feel more cohesive, functional, and enjoyable for years to come.

Person Street Addition

The original house was built in 1900 and had a series of poorly constructed additions added onto the rear over the years. To improve functionality and create a structure that would last for generations to come, the existing additions were removed and replaced with a thoughtfully designed living room and primary suite addition.

Respecting the character of the original home was a guiding principle throughout the project. A custom diamond-shaped window was designed and built as a subtle nod to the diamond attic louver vents found on the original 1900 structure, helping the new addition feel seamlessly connected to the home’s historic architecture.

Preserving original materials was also a priority in maintaining a cohesive feel throughout the interior. One of the home’s original mantels was carefully stripped of decades of paint and modified to surround the new gas insert fireplace—blending historic character with modern function.

Special attention was given to ensuring the addition felt natural to the home rather than visually disconnected from it. Rooflines, window proportions, exterior materials, and interior transitions were all carefully considered so the new spaces would feel as though they had always belonged there. The result is an addition that provides modern comfort and improved livability while honoring the craftsmanship and history of the original home.

Beyond aesthetics, the project also focused heavily on long-term performance and structural integrity. From updating framing and foundational support to integrating modern electrical, plumbing, and insulation systems, every aspect of the addition was designed to meet today’s standards while preserving the timeless character that made the home worth saving in the first place.
